Travelling through France with your large family

big family hotels in FranceWhether you are travelling to Spain, Germany, Belgium, Italy etc you will probably need to stop over somewhere in France.  If you are travelling with young children you may even need to stop off twice just to break up the journey more as young children can get very irritable if they are in the car a long time.  The great thing about travelling in France is that along the motorways there are numerous service stations and picnic areas where you can pull over and stretch your legs and although you have to pay to use some motorways in France, they are definately worth using as they are extremely well maintained and a lot quieter than the ‘free’ roads.

If you and your family need to travel down the east side of France and want to stop off just once, then Dijon is a great location to stop.  If you would like to break up the journey more and stop off twice then perhaps Troyes and Lyon would be more suitable.

If you are travelling down the west side of France and need to stop off once then Limoges is a great central place, if you want to stay over twice then Le Mans or Tours, Bordeaux or Toulouse may be good options for you.

Maybe you just want to travel straight down the middle of France, in which case Clermont Ferrand would be an excellent option.
